Shean King (Pronounced Shhh-eeeen) is a drag entity– A serial killer scene queen, a Myspace scene king, and a living breathing computer virus.

Sometimes malware, yet just as often a benign string of code, Shean King is every attention-whoring program that is, once was, and will be. She is the Instagram DM asking you to send over your credit card information to buy more followers. He is the desktop assistant quietly stealing your personal information. She is the strange phone call at 9am that’s merely static, and he is the chain email you get from your friend that you must “send to 12 people to get a kiss from your crush tomorrow!!1!” 

A product of the early internet she was raised in, Shean’s style is bright, eye-catching, maximalist, cute, and at times, absolutely, terrifyingly, grotesque. With elaborate hand-crafted costumes that bend his body to supernatural proportions, and props and reveals that defy expectations, Shean transforms drag into spectacle. With the appropriation of 2000’s era scene, emo, and electronic music, combined with her own mixing, writing, and poetry, Shean’s performances are always reference-rich, plot-driven, stories told in 3-9 minutes on stage. With a sense of humor, a lust for blood, and a general desire to be a troll, Shean aims to prove that there is no one way to do drag, and that drag is for everyone. 

Shean, alongside her wife Ladyboy George, is the co-founder and co-producer of Low Cringe Tolerance– A drag show production company hellbent on raising your cringe tolerance, one nerdy, plot-driven, fandom-inspired drag show at a time. Low Cringe Tolerance is responsible for instant classics such as; Sonic Adventure 2: Custody Battle, HOMOSTUCK: A Homestuck Drag Show, Fujoshi Friday (On A Sunday): A Yaoiful Pride Celebration, Draganronpa: A Murder Mystery Drag Show, and many, many more. In addition to their bi-monthly drag shows, dance parties, and jello wrestling events, Low Cringe Tolerance also hosts pay-what-you-can drag workshops called Anyone Can Do Drag, where attendees of all skill levels can come to both learn and share about what goes into being a drag performer. Low Cringe Tolerance is built off of the beliefs that drag should be fun, that drag is for everyone, and that you should always be yourself, no matter what anypony else thinks. 

When not on stage or in his studio, Shean teaches garment construction classes at The Rainbow Nook in Jamaica Plain. He offers different themed workshops, private lessons, and 101’s on important sewing skills, all at a sliding scale to make them accessible to all.

Shean is a title-holding performer, having been crowned both the winner and Mx. Congeniality of cycle 6 of The Boston Drag Gauntlet, as well as the winner of season 9 of Queens Purgatory. She has been featured in a variety of publications including; The Boston Uncommon, The Drag We Don’t See, and The Boston Compass as part of Low Cringe Tolerance. She has modeled in Boston Fashion Week and Rhode Island Fashion Week with No Rhyme or Reason’s Out Of The Toy Box collection, as well as in The MassArt Fashion Show with AJA Design’s Space Case collection. Shean King has been performing for over 6 years, and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in sculpture. She is also that maniac who jumped off a bridge in drag to celebrate the 50th anniversary of some book about a shark.
